About

Welcome to my blog! Im Savanna, 25, Canadian girl living in Perth Australia. I left my great job, amazing friends and family in Manitoba and made the trek to Australia at the end of Feb 2014 to work as an au pair. I’m using my blog to chronicle all my adventures, up’s and downs.

My job here in Perth…

I lucked out with my au pair job, I look after just one little guy who’s five yrs old and he’s in Primary school all day, everyday, other then school holidays. Australia has more school holidays then we do in North America so he does have a fair amount of little breaks every couple months where I have him all day, but still, a pretty sweet gig. In actuality I only au pair for 3 to 4 hours a day, which is a big change from working 9 hour days at least five days a week at my old job.

At home I worked at an awesome restaurant. I never thought in a million years I’d work in the hospitality industry (despite the fact that I did go  to school for Hospitality and Tourism management, so I guess I shouldn’t be that shocked I ended up in hospitality). I really didn’t see it as a  career choice but I’ve enjoyed no job like I enjoyed that job. After a while I moved into leadership at my restaurant and joined an amazing management teamphoto-2. Work there could be stressful, crazy, and hectic but in the best possible kind of way. It challenged me in all the right ways, and always kept me on my toes, I’d go back to my job there in a heart beat (and most likely/hopefully will when I return home eventually).

Life before Aus..

My job consumed a large part of my life (not in a bad way!). When you work at a restaurant you tend to camp out there more then a normal job. There’s always someone around looking to have a glass of wine or sit down for dinner or just visit with, no need to ever leave (this can be both a curse and a blessing)!! I lived in a perfect apartment with my very best friend Kelsey right across the street from the restaurant (where she worked as well). My parents live about an hour away in my little home town, so getting there to visit them once a week or so was always on my agenda.

I have a big family of my parents and four brothers, two older and two younger twin brothers. The two older have their own families so I am lucky to be an aunty to two nieces and two nephews.

Enjoy! 🙂
